Stat of the Day, 3rd April 2014

I was right to take on the odds on jolly yesterday, but chose the wrong horse to do it as the outsider of the whole field came home in front. Today, we're ducking Aintree to head off to Taunton for a horse taking a big class drop, and reverting to a preferred profile, in the...

3.55 Taunton:

Philip Hobbs' horses are in brilliant form just now, winning at a 20% clip in the past fortnight for a profit of 35 points, and he runs Dunraven Storm away from the public gaze this afternoon.

This fellow is a good ground right-handed specialist. Indeed on such going and travelling clockwise, his form is 1111. In his other four starts on good ground, he's run all of them at Cheltenham, in the Champion Bumper 2010, the Supreme Novices' Hurdle 2011, and the County Hurdle this year. On his fourth Cheltenham good ground run, he was second to Cue Card outside of the Festival.

His last eight runs have been in Grade 2, Listed, Grade 1, Class 2, Class 2, Listed, Class 2, Grade 3 company. Today he drops to Class 3, the lowest he's contested since October 2010.

Dunraven Storm's sole effort at this sort of trip was a fourth of eighteen in a strong Ascot handicap, and he looks well worth another try at two and half miles on breeding. With just thirteen runs on the clock at age nine, he's still got scope to improve and has some excellent form already banked, including five wins in those thirteen starts.

Back to a clockwise circuit and on good ground, I'm expecting a big run from Dun for his in-form trainer at around the 9/2 mark. Win only is the play, of course.

Thanks Terry. Yes, I was pretty hopeful about Dunraven Storm today, and had a good little bet on it myself. 🙂

Glad you availed of the 888 free money offer too!
