Stat of the Day, 30th December 2012

No joy again yesterday, despite not being beaten far, and December's barren spell continues. It is worth remembering that December was a tough month for SotD last year too, but we're striving for a couple of winners to close out the year.

We'll begin our recovery mission in the...

4.00 Taunton

Let's talk about Venetia Williams. An excellent trainer having a brilliant season, and with her string in top form currently.

She has a fine track record at Taunton, particularly with her hurdling entries, and even more especially with her handicap hurdlers.

In the last five years, Venetia has run 22 horses in handicap hurdles at the track. Seven have won (32% strike rate) and eleven (50%) have placed. Those winners were worth 35.5 units profit to boot.

This afternoon she runs Kingcora in a Class 3 handicap hurdle, but I'm pretty sure he's being readied for a tilt at the Cheltenham ย Festival and I don't expect today to be his day.

On the other hand, if Jupiter Rex is ever going to have a day, it is likely to be this afternoon. He's a plodder and was fifth over two and a half miles last tme. The time before he was also fifth, only beaten eleven lengths, over nearer three miles, and this extended three mile trip might see him in his best light.

I'm hoping he's going to improve in what looks a weak race, despite a couple with 1's in their form string at the top of the handicap, and I think that bet365's 16/1 BOG with four places is worth taking. Half a point each way.

Another couple of winners yesterday Matt from your National Hunt Five to follow. It seems to be the gift that just keeps giving, many thanks and all the best for the New Year. (Being cheeky any chance of five to follow when the Flat starts up ) Martin

We’ll see, Martin. That’s a little way off, so the answer is “Yes, probably”. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just pleased to put SotD back on form – for a day at least!

    Matt – awesome ! 15length winner …!!!!!

Away with all you DOUBTERS ! This IS the BEST free service in horse racing ….and today was the proof

Richard – hope you were on it fella – as it’s a full on month saver for the service

So happy for you guys at SotD ! Well done !!!!

Thanks Johnny. It did look a bit of a plot, and sometimes you have to take a leap of faith on those. That’s what SotD is all about. It does mean that – more often than not – we look stupid when a horse runs a clunker, but the wins pay for the losers and leave a bit of spare change for beer and chips. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not sure, and it may not even be Cheltenham (there are easier meetings to plot for than that!).

But Kingcora came over with very good French form and a very high handicap mark as a consequence.

Very well done matt… typically i gave it a miss today too.Had a big punt on FINE PARCHMENT instead at 17.5. 2nd traded 1.01 in running.Looked so home and hosed.Shoulda split my stakes. ๐Ÿ™ Congratz anyway… HAPPY NEW YEAR

Hi Matt – I used 365 as many of us appear to have done and have just been written to congratulating me on Jupiter Rex and awarding me a bet to similar value on the Lingfield 2.30pm tomorrow. Perhaps we all get that? Any comments or suggestions on selection welcome! BW

I’d have a second look at Brocklebank in that race, though it’s deeply competitive for sure. Violet Jordan’s runner has had an interesting ownership past…

Hi Johnny – I have no idea why they sent it to me, but I doubt I am a higher roller than you, with your professional contacts! Anyway I am always encouraged by your comments on here and thanks for your good wishes. Ian

IanL/Johnny – Bet365 nominate two races every day as “Feature Races”. If you back a winner at odds of greater than 4/1 you get a free bet to the same stake on the next feature race. That’s what happened today, and the Lingfield race tomorrow is the next feature race. Good luck in it. I’ll be having a dip as well.

Many Thxs for the kind words – positivity important on this site and thxsfully the vast majority is … Just the holding gets that can’t see long term is hard to take – esp for Matt and Chris

Loving your sense of community with your post re free 365 bet !

Also Thxs to Ian S for clarifying why !! Again great community fella. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t know it was a feature race / forgot it was a possibility and therefore have just confirmed a free ยฃ50 (the max they offer regardless of your stake) with them on that 2:30 Tommo

Matt / Ian’s … Worth you guys posting up Tommo regards this as Matt directed us all to 365 for the Sotd bet and so there will be many Geegeez punters who are unaware of this free bet up to ยฃ50 (or ยฃ25ew ) on the 2:30

Matt – include in your ‘review of yesterday’ – cant look a gifthorse in the mouth etc and will help you’re readers who’ve bet with 365 … Even if they only got SP 5/1 they qualify

They DO mention it to PC users where prob IanL got the message , but of you are a mobile / iPhone / iPad user then it doesn’t shout out to you

Thxs both Ian’s for getting me and hopefully others to know about this free bet to nothing – I owe you both a drink

Which makes me think – Matt , ever thought about a raceday for SotD readers (under our own cost / steam) to put faces to posts as it were ??

Best wishes for 2013 everyone ….and sure we will all be glad to see the back of the wettest year in history in the UK !

Although 2012 saw us love Sotd of course .. One positive to the year !!

I’d have to agree with yer matt about DECENT FELLA.Looks interesting!Trainer, jockey combo racking up the wins between them.Brown Pete won 2 races in 2 days recently with Daniel Thomas winning inbetween.Been running in some good races b4 she got hold of him(Listed class LTO) and back down to 85 which is a very winnable mark for him in this grade. He could destroy these if anywhere near back to his best.Change of scenery, routine could easily work the oracle.

  9. Damion

Same owners as Brown Pete too and the moneys down.Declared for 2 more races over the next week which is always a good sign.I expect him to win tomorrow or go very close b4 racking up a little sequence of wins over the next couple of weeks.Another Brown Pete me thinks! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. Stuart

Johnny5, I got the Bet365 freebie for today too. They didn’t email me, I had to go to my account and “find” it (in my messages there). As Ian said, it’s for the 2.30 at Lingfield today, so I hope you see this post before then.

    Good luck!
