Stat of the Day, 18th December 2012
We rattled the crossbar again yesterday, as Guydus could only manage 2nd place at 11/4. he ran his own race pretty well, but was outpaced in the closing stages by a horse competing from a whole stone out of the handicap, as only two managed to complete the 3.25 mile slog.
Firmer ground and a much shorter trip awaits us today as we take a short 20 mile journey North for a Class 6, 7 furlong handicap, where 14 runners are set to grace the Polytrack for the.…
When you consider compiling a list of trainers to follow here at Lingfield, I'd wager that Garry Moss wouldn't be in the forefront of your thoughts. However, from a small group of runners, he has enjoyed some decent results of late at this venue.
All told, Garry has sent just ten runners to race on the Polytrack here: two of which were long odds no-hopers back in 2008, so they're hardly relevant to today's contest. In fact Garry wasn't represented here at all for almost four and a half years after those two runners back in 2008. However, since the 16th November this year, he has sent eight runners to this track and today will be his ninth entrant in the last 33 days here!
Those eight runners have already produced three winners and 2 places at a selection of trips ranging from 5 to 7 furlongs: his record of 15916123 has rewarded his followers with profits of 17.25pts, whilst his 7 furlong runners are 3/3 over that timeframe for +22.25pts.
Garry, of course, has just one runner today: our SotD pick of the day Lucky Mark.
Lucky Mark has been a consistent performer on the all-weather of late, making the frame on four occasions from just seven outings in the past couple of months or so. The last of those runs was over today's course and distance some twelve days ago and that victory has been franked since. The runner-up that day, Hoover subsequently won over course and distance four days later and the 4th placed horse Efistorm has also won here since.
This horse is still unexposed over this seven furlong trip, as this will be only his third attempt at the distance. The earlier 8/1 C&D success was preceded by a runner-up finish on his debut at the trip at Wolverhampton, also at 8/1, when he was beaten by less than two lengths by Haftohaf who went on to win his follow-up race at Wolverhampton almost three weeks ago.
Lucky Mark has shown improvement between the two 7f races and despite a small rise in the weights, he retains the prospect of coming on some more over the 7f trip and as such, is expected to give another strong performance.
He will face some competition in the shape of favourite Glastonberry and also from ex-SotD pick Paphos (disappointing for us on 8/12), but there's still some leeway in the price for us today. Early prices show 4/1 BOG available with Bet365, Betfred and Totesport, I think that may well shorten as the morning unfolds, so my call today is a 1pt win only bet on Lucky Mark at 4/1 BOG with Bet365, but if you'd like to see what odds the rest are offering, simply...
