Stat of the Day, 6th January 2013

In front for January now, after Amigo - recommended at 11/2 - came home in front at 5/1. Not much to stir the punting loins today, and I'm heading to the beach in the...

2.15 Wolverhampton

It's all about the horse today, and he's a little shorter than some people's tastes, perhaps, but I consider him to represent value all the same.

Lean On Pete is his name, and he's something of a track specialist. Indeed, here at Wolves, his record is 32211.

Over this trip he's 2211, and with today's jockey he's 115 (the 5 being at Kempton, which is a very different surface from Wolves).

There's really not much more to say, except that trainer Ollie Pears is in great form, with a winner (at 16/1) and a second from his last three runners; and that I think 3/1 is about three-quarters of a point bigger than I think he should be. As such, I'm happy to side win only with Lean On Pete...

I’ve watched that race three times and I still don’t know how it got up from last turning into the finishing straight (which is well unusual at Wolves)

Fabulous pick Matt and a nice gamble landed too!

Winners are like buses – wait for ages and two come along on the bounce !!!

SO pleased for you and the SotD Matt after some of the rubbish you’ve been receiving the last few months ( hopefully countered by the positive comments of the longer standing readers of GGz)

Good luck on the Hattrick hunt Tommo !!!

Hi Matt – today was a very good result following a brilliant ride to take it on the line, having been hampered! This time SotD was the “one too good”! You wrote recently “after a bad run expect a good run” – well here’s hoping! BW and thanks Ian

Well done matt! 2 nice picks and i do believe that’s 3 on the bounce for u personally now.Lets hope things turn better for chris’s selections as he’s due a change of luck or at least a run for his money. NO PRESSURE CHRIS!!! :p Anywayz hope the shrewd picks and good luck continue for the both of u and ty for delivering a fun and very informative site.Profitable too which is such a bonus! thx again chaps! 😉 ps i will give a shout out when i think it’s time for DECENT FELLA to deliver.Did back him for a reasonable amount after i mentioned him in last post recently.Ran an ok race and ran twice since running pretty poorly on 2nd occasion(left him alone both times)and unseating yesterday too. He’s been backed heavily on exchanges on the 1st 2 occasions so it’s just a matter of time.

No pressure then Chris – what with Matt on a hatrick ! Now – there is “being held up” and there’s todays runner. How confidence was the jock – brilliant, didn’t waste a yard in getting up.
This is in contrast to the jockey on the joint favorite @ Plumpton today who decided to give the field a good fence start and ended like an express train – strange game.
Great Stuff Matt – more later today please !

Another cracking pick today after yesterday’s great stat. Very glad it is starting to turn around. It’s “The Long Game” which counts…
