Stat of the Day, 24th March 2015
Monday was a fine day for SotD as Wicklewood justified its big-priced selection by winning at 12/1. In so doing, he took his record in course and distance handicap chases to 111. As an each way play, he also added 7.2 points of profit to our bottom line. Lovely stuff.
Tuesday is a poor day on the stats front, and it's a bit of a shortie I'm playing in the...
An extended mile and five furlong handicap, and one which could be a little tactical with a couple of hold up horses and no obvious pace angle in a small field. The one I'm siding with is the progressive Thomas Blossom, a horse who began his recent winning spree off a mark of just 48. Since that first win at the beginning of December last year, he's added two more, and has moved to a perch of 66, and Class 4 racing.
The stat part of today's Stats of the Day are these:
Jockey David Probert (one of the very best, most under-rated pilots in the weighing room - keep him onside) is three from five on Thomas Blossom, his full form string reading 31131.
Trainer Patrick Chamings has won with four of the nine runners he's sent to Wolverhampton in the past two years; and he has exactly the same stats with this horse - four wins from nine starts.
I'm afraid that's as good as it gets on what is a very tenuous day for stats fans. However, I can add that this step up in trip should suit a horse which is by Dylan Thomas out of a Sadler's Wells mare (pretty well bred, eh?), and he ought to be closer to the pace than his main market rival, Gabrial The Terror. That one is on a four-timer at the track, but is a perennial hold up horse in a race where proximity to the front rank may be pivotal.
5/2 is the best available as I write, and that's with Boylesports (BOG) and Ladbrokes (not BOG until 10am), so back with Boyle if you're reading this Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Or, better still, check the latest by...
