Stat of the Day, 20th June 2013
Well, we'll never know how good our stats were for yesterday, as we got no kind of run from My Lad Percy, after he dumped his rider at just the second flight of hurdles
So, we have to pick ourselves up and try again in another handicap hurdle. We're heading West to Trimsaran for th penultimate contest on the card, an 8-runner, Class 3 affair over two and a half miles on good to firm ground in the....
8.45 Ffos Las
The first thing I do when I see a Ffos Las meeting on the horizon is to check for any Anthony Honeyball runners, as his charges tend to go particularly well here. Since the turn of 2011, Anthony has only sent nineteen runners out to this Carmarthenshire course, but this small cluster of runners has already yielded seven winners, a strike rate of almost 37% producing level stakes profits of 25.9pts, which equates to a return in excess if 136% of all stakes: nice work if you can get it.
As is often the case here at SotD, our selected trainer has just the one runner on show and therefore is an easy selection to make, providing the horse has some merit of its own.
Tonight's runner couldn't be in better form, as Man Of Leisure comes to the track hot on the heels of completing a five-day hat trick just nine days ago with wins here over course and distance followed quickly with successes at Stratford over an extra 2.5 furlongs before dropping back to today's trip whan completing the treble at Worcester last time out.
Man Of Leisure has been an absolute revelation since his recent switch to the Honeyball yard, this nine-year old is no spring chicken but he's having a new lease of life and currently stands at three from three for his new trainer after failing to win any of his other twenty races whilst with Nerys Dutfield. I'm not putting Nerys down, as she did guide the horse to a string of placed finishes but he was always the bridesmaid.
A change of approach and the fitting of a tongue tie seem to have done the trick with this one and even the 7lb excess weight carried tonight shouldn't be enough to stop him, especially when you consider that he has seemed to have plenty left in the tank at the end of all three recent wins under talented jockey Rachael Green, who is on board once again this evening.
The obvious danger here is the warm favourite Busted tycoon, who absolutely hacked up last night at Uttoxeter, but the 14lbs extra on his back tonight may well just be the undoing of him. One good thing about this favourite reappearing is that we'll get a bit more bang for our buck: Man of Leisure has been sent off at 10/11 and Evens in his last two outings, but tonight we're able to take advantage of the 3/1 BOG on offer from Paddy Power and BetVictor, but to see what your bookie is offering.......
