No joy for us again yesterday, as Zarkandar won in emphatic style but unfortunately pace maker Celestial Halo stopped fairly quickly to just lose third on the run in.

The winner looks a Champion Hurdle contender all right, though I do have a suspicion that he'd be suited by a bit further than the raw two miles there.

Onwards, and today we're headed as far West as we can go (I think), to...

2.50 Ffos Las

Dr Richard Newland is one of the shrewdest trainers in the country, and wins at every level of racing including Cheltenham. His Ffos Las record is four winners from eleven runners, and in chases he's won two of the three his horses have contested for a level stakes profit of 7.5 units.

Luckily for us, he still flies under the radar somewhat, and he introduces a very interesting fellow to handicap chases this afternoon in the shape of Callhimwhatyouwant.

This chap was bought from the pointing fields and has had three runs in hurdle company prior to today's contest. Formerly, he was a triple point-to-point winner, so he shouldn't have any issues with the bigger obstacles, and he's won on soft and soft to heavy too.

Given that it's expected to be extremely sodden underfoot, Callhimwhatyouwant could sluice through to upgrade his current rules form considerably on what it implies so far.

Today's jockey might be a new name to you, but he's won on two of his last six chase starts, so he knows how to get them over the fences and home in front if circumstances allow.

In what is a seriously moderate race, Callhimwhatyouwant is the fellow with the most likely improvement on rules form to date, and has pointing form to give him every chance if he's tuned up. His trainer's track record would suggest he is, and 13/2 with BetVictor BOG seems perfectly fair. I'm going to side win only, which may not be as brave as first appears in a weak race.
