Stat of the Day, 13th February 2018

Monday's Result :

4.05 Catterick : Straidnahanna @ 5/2 BOG WON at 9/4 Prominent, led 3rd, pressed from 15th until went 2nd lengths ahead last, stayed on to win by 3.25 lengths...

We now go again with Tuesday's...

2.20 Southwell :

Before I post the daily selection, just a quick reminder of how I operate the service. Generally, I'll identify and share the selection in the evening before the following day's race and I then add a detailed write-up later on that night/next morning.

Those happy to take the early price on trust can do so, whilst some might prefer to wait for my reasoning. As I fit the early service in around my family life, I can't give an exact timing on the posts, so I suggest you follow us on Twitter and/or Facebook for instant notifications of a published pick.

Who?

Star Ascending @ 9/4 BOG

A Class 6, 1m4f apprentice handicap on fibresand worth £3,493 to the winner...

Why?

A 6 yr old gelding in top form after finishing 12211 in his last five outings : all here at Southwell and culminating in a course and distance success a week ago.

His trainer, Jennie Candlish will be hoping for yet another LTO winner to "double up" to continue her fine record of 23 winners from 91 (25.3% SR) for 36.98pts (+40.6% ROI) with such horses since the start of 2015, including handicappers at 21/80 (26.3%) for 39.32pts (+49.1%) and Class 6 'cappers at 5 from 13 (38.5%) for 13.46pts (+103.5%)

Furthermore, since the start of 2016, Jennie's A/W runners are 13/68 (19.1% SR) for 11.38pts (+16.7% ROI), including of relevance today...

  • handicappers : 12/59 (20.3%) for 14.73pts (+25%)
  • Class 6 : 8/41 (19.5%) for 11.85pts (+28.9%)
  • Class 6 handicappers : 8/37 (21.6%) for 15.85pts (+42.8%)
  • at Southwell : 4/16 (25%) for 7.04pts (+44%)
  • and Class 6 handicappers at Southwell : 4/15 (26.7%) for 8.04pts (+53.6%)

On top of the above, we have Jennie's record with horses sent back out after less than 10 days rest to consider, as these are 14/25 956% SR) for 68.04pts (+272.16% ROI) since the start of 2016, with LTO winners winning again on 6 of 8 (75% SR) occasions, generating profits of 8.37pts at an ROI of 104.7%.

And finally for now, since the start of 2013, Jennie's runners who were LTO winners 1-25 days earlier at the same class and trip next time out are 7/17 (41.2% SR) for 12.83pts (+75.5% ROI), with those now running at the same class, course and distance winning 3 of 7 (42.9%) for 4.27pts (+60.9%)

...giving us...a 1pt win bet on Star Ascending @ 9/4 BOG which was available with Hills at 10.10pm on Monday with the non-BOG until morning pairing of Betfred & Totesport offering the same.. To see what your preferred bookie is offering, simply...

Don't forget, we offer a full interactive racecard service every day!

REMINDER: THERE IS NO STAT OF THE DAY ON SUNDAYS

Here is today's racecard

P.S. all P/L returns quoted in the stats above are to Betfair SP, as I NEVER bet to ISP and neither should you. I always use BOG bookies for SotD, wherever possible, but I use BFSP for the stats as it is the nearest approximation I can give, so I actually expect to beat the returns I use to support my picks. If that's unclear, please ask!

Challenge: Find ways of thanking Chris every day (more or less without exception, at the moment) without being repetitive. Hmmmm…..

    Felicitations, good Sir!
